The Organisation of American States (OAS) "Care Program for
Victims of Mines and Unexploded Ordinance" provides assistance
to landmine victims in the form of prostheses, therapy, medications,
transportation from their communities to the rehabilitation centre,
lodging and food. This humanitarian work began with a pilot program
in Nicaragua and has benefited more than 250 landmine and war victims
in that country who otherwise would be left with no chance of rehabilitation
and reintegration into productive life in their communities.
