On Peacekeepers Day Weekend (August 6 and 7, 2005) Do Anything
to raise funds to support the Peacekeepers Demining Fund projects
recognising the sacrifice of the Buffalo 9. The DO ANYTHING FETE
is designed to suit your particular passions, talents, and skills.
DO ANYTHING but DO SOMETHING!
1. Invite friends and neighbours to join you for a Peacekeepers
Day barbeque. You put on the eats - they bring a donation.
2. Organize a Peacekeepers Day lunch or picnic with your office,
club, or church.
3. Organise the traditional fundraising event with dinner or dessert
or drinks and snacks. Already events are being organised on Canadian
Forces bases and by Rotary Clubs.
4. Organize a live or silent auction. Collect items from friends,
neighbours or local business; get 'sweat equity' donations such
as yard clean-up, gardening, or snow shovelling futures.
5. Run a 50/50 draw - sell numbered tickets and award 50% of the
funds raised as prizes - put the remaining 50% of the funds into
mine action.
6. Play a tennis match with your friends - losers pay.
7. Play a round of golf with your colleagues or better yet organize
a Peacekeepers Day Golf Tournament. The golfing community has a proud
history of support for Canada's efforts to rid the world of landmines.
Approach your local golf course. Block off areas with red ribbon
to mark minefields - charge to retrieve golf balls hit in these
areas.
8. Organize a street yard sale and donate the proceeds.
9. Organize a Bowl-a-Thon. 'Sell' lanes to corporate sponsors.
Participants get pledges.
10. Organize a bike-a-thon. Work with the local school to use their
track. Participants get pledges based on the number of laps they
will do. Get a local fast-food donor to sponsor and donate product
- participants get free; attendees pay.
11. Organize a wine tasting/ beer tasting event. Work with local
wineries/ breweries to secure low cost product - or invite them
to participate directly.
12. Organise that summer shinny game you've been talking about
for years.
13. Still can't decide? Click here to host
a NON-event!
